2024 Fall Vacation
A small selection of photos
Off we go, heading to Ouray.
We tried to get to the Wall of Giant Aspens, but the tiny creek crossing
had been washed out by a torrent. Fortunately it was about 1/8 mile from
the destination, so I walked the rest of the way.
The Wall of Giant Aspens stays green much longer than the surrounding
trees. We came a week later than usual (first week of October), and
it's still only 10% yellow.
To see why we call it the Wall of Giant Aspens, this photo from summer
shows the Jeep coming through the wall.
In most places, the aspens were at the peak of color.
Yellows.
And oranges.
A little of everything. And a thin haze over everything all week,
probably forest fire smoke.
More rich colors.
This was the cloudiest day all week.
Yellows.
And oranges.
I like the greenish colors on Snowden Mountain.
Having fun in upper Yankee Boy Basin.
Same fun spot, different angle.
And I'll sneak one in from last year. In Ouray, Vicki is in the store
shopping, and I'm standing here on the front step. A little girl walks
by, and looks at me, and says "Is that a mannequin, Mommy?".
